Public Hearing on the safety of immigrant workers will be held to make public the alarming numbers of injuries and deaths of Latino workers in the construction, temporary staffing, and service industries. CWC Lead Organizer, Miram Perez, is member of the panel and will organize worker testimonies which will set the stage for new legislation in Illinois to improve worker protections.

Workers from the Day Labor Collaboration file lawsuit against against their employer, Scott Labor, on Chicago’s south side for non-payment of wages. CBS Special Investigative Report “Temporary Workers Sue Labor Agency For Unfair Payment” covers the actions of the workers to assert their rights to be paid for the hours they work and for overtime pay on Chicago Channel 2. Minimum wage in Illinois rises from $5.50 to $6.50 per hour. The Chicago Workers’ Legal Clinic calls for all workers who receive less than $6.50 per hour to report the violation to their rights.
